Challenge:
The H. Al Mutlaq Residence was envisioned as a contemporary reinterpretation of Andalusian and Islamic architecture, creating a residential sanctuary within a modern Riyadh suburb. The challenge lay in preserving the richness of traditional architectural elements while integrating modern spatial planning and contemporary comforts. Additionally, the project required a harmonious relationship between interior and exterior spaces, ensuring that the architectural identity remained cohesive and immersive.

Approach:
Designed by Dar Al Omran - Rasem Badran (DAO-Badran), the residence embraced a structured composition of stone-clad masses, which open toward a welcoming entrance courtyard, leading into the central atrium—the heart of the home. The atrium, covered in intricate marble patterns, extended into the main living spaces, reinforcing a fluid and interconnected spatial sequence. The façade was crafted with a restrained yet elegant stoned boundary wall, punctuated by small, strategically placed openings, ensuring both privacy and filtered natural light. The architectural layout guided the residence’s movement toward a lush Arabian garden, a tranquil retreat that enriched the sensory experience of the home.

Impact:
The H. Al Mutlaq Residence stands as a refined blend of heritage and modernity, offering a timeless living experience that echoes the grandeur of Andalusian architecture while embracing contemporary needs. Through its thoughtful material selection, spatial composition, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, the residence has set a benchmark for high-end residential design in Riyadh. By merging the principles of Islamic architecture with a fresh, modern interpretation, the project ensures that tradition and innovation continue to coexist, shaping the future of luxury living in the region.
