Challenge:
The Khaled Al Hasan Cancer Center sought to provide a world-class treatment facility for Palestinians, many of whom previously needed to travel abroad for proper care. The main challenge lay in creating an environment that prioritized both medical excellence and psychological healing while incorporating the future growth of the facility to meet increasing demands. Additionally, the center needed to serve as a referral hub not only for Palestine but for the broader region.
Approach:
With expertise in healthcare design, DAR AL OMRAN collaborated with its partners to deliver a concept that merged advanced medical functionality with a serene, healing environment. Key features of the design included:
Integrated Green Spaces: Breathing areas and naturally-lit courtyards were thoughtfully incorporated to provide patients and visitors with moments of tranquility.
Future-Ready Infrastructure: While initially designed with 209 beds, the layout accounted for future expansion to add another 180 beds.
Innovative Engineering Solutions: State-of-the-art medical equipment and infrastructure were seamlessly integrated, ensuring a highly efficient and adaptable facility.
Balanced Architecture: The design encompassed two towers, a podium, and four basement levels, harmoniously blending functional medical areas with support services, outpatient clinics, and ample parking.
Impact:
Upon its completion, the Khaled Al Hasan Cancer Center established itself as a pivotal healthcare facility in Palestine, offering comprehensive cancer treatment locally. Beyond its immediate medical services, the center set a precedent for how thoughtful design and cutting-edge technology can come together to create a space that promotes healing, dignity, and community. By reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad, it also helped to strengthen Palestine’s healthcare autonomy and regional prominence.
