Challenge:
The task was to design a state-of-the-art library for female students at King Faisal University, capable of supporting more than 10,000 students in the future. The project required combining cultural references with modern architectural approaches, all while maintaining an efficient layout that adheres to sustainability and LEED standards. Additionally, the library needed to integrate both functional and aesthetic criteria to establish itself as a vibrant, iconic space within the campus.

Approach:
The architectural design drew inspiration from local heritage and vernacular architecture, reinterpreted through a modern lens. This resulted in a five-story structure with a hierarchical distribution of public and private zones, ensuring that the library would be both functional and culturally resonant. Sustainability and LEED principles were central to the design, creating an environment that fosters academic excellence while minimizing the building’s environmental footprint. The integration of flexible spaces, abundant natural light, and energy-efficient systems aimed to provide an optimal educational atmosphere for the students.

Impact:
This library has become a landmark within King Faisal University’s campus, embodying a synthesis of tradition and innovation. It serves as a hub of knowledge and community, not only meeting the academic needs of students but also contributing to the university’s reputation as a leading educational institution. By combining sustainable design with cultural authenticity, the library sets a standard for modern academic architecture that respects heritage while embracing the future.
