Challenge:
Prince Sultan City for Humanitarian Services was envisioned as a self-sustaining residential and social development that integrates seamlessly within Riyadh's urban landscape while respecting environmental, social, and human-centered design principles. The challenge was to create a closely-knit urban fabric that provides a harmonious living environment while addressing contemporary lifestyle needs. Ensuring a cohesive blend of modernity and tradition, while fostering a strong sense of community, was essential in defining the project's success.

Approach:
The design approach by Dar Al Omran - Rasem Badran (DAO-Badran) embraced the essence of Najdi traditional architecture, incorporating its spatial hierarchy, detailing, and materiality to create an authentic and culturally resonant environment. The residential complex was organized around a central communal oasis, reinforcing the idea of shared living and interaction. The development included villas, apartments, and studios in varying sizes, ensuring a diverse and inclusive community. The architectural composition focused on natural shading, passive cooling techniques, and sustainable urban planning, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency. The project sought to create a timeless living environment, one that celebrates Riyadh’s heritage while catering to modern aspirations.

Impact:
Prince Sultan City for Humanitarian Services stands as a model for integrated community living, successfully merging local heritage with contemporary urban design principles. Through its carefully planned spatial organization and human-centric approach, the project enhances the quality of life for its residents, offering a space that is both functional and deeply rooted in cultural identity. By prioritizing community interaction, sustainability, and a strong architectural identity, the development has contributed to Riyadh’s urban fabric, ensuring its lasting relevance as a benchmark for future humanitarian and residential projects in the region.
