Challenge
The project entailed creating a nationally significant facility for the National Center for Records and Archives, designed to store and preserve invaluable documents, records, and archives for future generations. The building needed to balance traditional architectural values with modern functionality while adhering to the highest standards of preservation and disaster prevention as per international archival guidelines. The complexity lay in ensuring that the design would align with the client’s aspirations while adhering to both local construction codes and international archival standards.

Approach
The approach focused on creating a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, respecting the local architectural heritage while embracing contemporary design principles. Key elements include:

Contextual Design: The architecture draws inspiration from traditional Saudi forms, ensuring the building remains culturally rooted. However, the design is rendered in a contemporary manner, reflecting the progressive vision of the client.
Preservation-focused Layout: The design of the facility incorporates strict adherence to international archival standards, with built-in features aimed at disaster prevention to ensure the long-term preservation of vital records.
Integration of Engineering Standards: The structure follows Saudi building codes and includes advanced engineering solutions to meet safety and sustainability requirements while optimizing operational efficiency for the Center's archival functions.

Impact
The National Center for Records and Archives stands as a modern architectural landmark that honors the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia while addressing contemporary needs for preservation and security.
